2013 Jesse Tree: Moses

Scripture: Exodus 3:1-10
.
Event/Theme: Moses
.
Symbol we use: Red ornaments. Red balls, red garlands, red bows, and red tinsel would all work well.
.
Meditation: Moses didn't leave his ordinary life seeking after the Lord and His will to change his future. He was working hard, providing for his family, honoring his father-in-law, when the Lord spoke to him. Of course, the Lord's words to him took him out of his ordinary life and nothing was the same for him ever again.
.
Sometimes we think we have to change something significant in order to find the Lord and ask Him to send us on a special mission. Sometimes that is true, but often we simply need to become more faithful in the tasks we already have. We seek the Lord not so much by leaving for retreats and mission trips as often as possible, but by allowing the encounters we do experience on those retreats and mission trips to color our everyday lives. We allow the Lord to speak to us where we are. We take time to read His Word so we can meditate on it as we work and play. We ask for His guidance and for opportunities to speak His truth to people we naturally encounter throughout the day. We practice responding to all situations virtuously, with His help. If He wants us to change everything, beginning a new life as different from the old as Moses experienced, He is perfectly capable of staging an encounter with or without a burning bush. He will let us know if and when it is time to leave home for an entirely new adventure. Until then, our main focus should be on living that ordinary life to please Him.
