2013 Jesse Tree: Creation

Scripture: Genesis 1:1-31; John 1:1-3
.
Event/Theme: Creation
.
Symbol we use: Every ornament that is reminiscent of the world God created. Snowmen, penguins, butterflies, polar bears, snowflakes, holly, other animals.
.
Meditation: Everything God created was good. Evil on earth came later, from us, not in the beginning from the Creator. That even includes the creatures I'd like to banish from the earth--the mosquitoes and rats and slugs. And while a lot of the suffering we experience from such creatures is a result of the Fall, it is also possible to see some of His original purpose in them--to recognize some of the Good they still have in them from our Creator. Humans have fallen much further than the worst animal, yet we started much higher up, created in the very likeness of God. The Lord still loves us despite all we have done to distance ourselves from Him and so we should love each person as being created to be a bit like Him regardless of how much that person endeavors to reject that inheritance.
.
How can you love an unlovable person today? Even small efforts can have a large impact and you might never know it. Smile; say "Merry Christmas"; give some money; share a meal; send a card; invite them to a dinner or a shared event; buy a gift. Pretend the Lord is hiding inside that person (even if you can't see Him) and love Him by showing even a small bit of love toward that individual.
