God's Obligations Toward Us

Romans 9:18
John 3:14-16
Our society is so inclusive, or at least promotes inclusiveness so thoroughly, that we forget that God does not have the slightest obligation to do anything for us. We treat eternal life as a right we can demand and He must provide. In reality, He may choose to offer it to any and all of us, but that is His prerogative, not ours. He has every right to exclude anyone He chooses. We do not have the right to demand anything.
.
Only by changing our perspective on this issue can we enter into the thankfulness we should have for God's gifts to us. Only by recognizing what God is obligated to give us can we acknowledge the many blessings He has chosen to give us. Only then can we look around at our lives with a truly grateful heart, seeing each and every gift, both small and large, that He has freely chosen to bestow on us. Once we begin to see the blessings we are overwhelmed by His love for us, knowing that He is certainly showering us with blessings beyond measure each and every day of our lives.
