Lent Day 28

Luke 10:38-42
Our lives can quickly fill up with the unimportant. If we're not taking time away from the regular busyness of life to pray (Lk 5:16), it becomes easy for the less-important to distract us from the most-important. Martha was doing a very good work. But her good work was not the best thing for her to occupy herself with at the time. A desert can feel empty and lonely but it can also re-prioritize our activities. In feeling abandoned we may discover the emptiness of our lives without God; in thirsting for water we might appreciate more the gifts Christ offers us; in getting rid of distractions we may grow in discernment of what is from God and what is not; while protecting ourselves from predators we may learn to use our spiritual armor more effectively; while experiencing the sun's power we might learn to more fully respect God's power. In all of this the goal is to become more like Mary. With only about 80 years to live (hopefully...), we don't have time to waste on lesser activities. As good as it is to serve others, it is even more important to sit at Jesus' feet and listen to His words. What would Jesus tell you is the most important thing for you to do?
