Lent Day 25

Revelation 21:6-8
After water, the next most basic need in the desert is shade from the daytime sun. The sunlight is good but strong and most animals and people will work or sleep in a shelter during midday when the light is strongest. In our society today we seem to have forgotten how important it is to honor God. We focus a lot on His love toward us, which is good, but we need to remember that as loving and good as God is, He is also the Creator of the universe, from the smallest particle to the largest galaxy and everything in between. (Rev 4:11) It is not wise to underestimate His power and awesomeness. Treating Him too casually can cause "sunburn"--we are not His peer that we can treat Him however we like and expect Him to always forgive us and always love us. As C.S. Lewis described Aslan in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, God is not safe but He is good. We need God and enjoy Him, as we need and enjoy the sunlight each day. But let us not forget who He is and casually treat Him as an equal. Give Him the praise that is due His holy name. (1 Chr 16:29)
