Scripture: Genesis 1:1-31; John 1:1-3

Anything created by God that we're not saving for later. |
.
Event/Theme: Creation
.
Symbol we use: Ornaments and sun-catchers that are earth-shaped or butterfly-shaped. Also snowmen, penguins, polar bears, etc. Anything that reminds us of the beauty of creation. This is also a good day to cut out paper snowflakes if you'd like to do that since they also represent God's beautiful creation. On years that we have time in our schedule for it, I like to cut out several with my children and tape them to our front windows.

Girls really wanted to put all our ornaments on today. I'm a mean mom and told them they had to wait for the remainder. |
Meditation: God created each and every thing we see and He created them all good. He spoke and even what did not exist beforehand obeyed Him. The Word, Jesus, is so powerful and so worthy of obedience, that all of creation obeys the laws He put into place (Jer 33:25) and even what does not yet exist is obligated to come into being in obedience to Jesus. When we look at creation we can learn a bit about the Creator. The same One who created all we see around us also created us and invites us to a deep and personal relationship with Him. Unlike most of creation, we can choose how we will respond.
