The Song of a Spirit Set Free

Romans 8:2
Psalm 9:9-14
Sing praise
I saw this tagline on the board in front of a church in my neighborhood: "Praise is the song of a spirit set free." It immediately struck me how true this is yet how easily we forget it. We have been set free and what more appropriate response is there than to praise the One who freed us? Think for a moment of all you have been set free from. Don't forget sin, death, works of the flesh (Gal 5:19-21), and the final judgement. Think of all the sin you would certainly commit and all the temptations you would submit to. Now thin for a moment of all you have been given through Christ Jesus. Consider your salvation, new life, freedom, grace, protection, and someday heaven. Look around you at all the blessings you have received and all the ones you anticipate. Let the praise become a song (even if just in your mind) and let the Lord be honored for all He has done for you. Sing praises to Him every day; sing the Psalms, sing what others have written, sing what comes into your mind when you focus on the blessings God has poured out for you.
