Lent Day 18

1 Thessalonians 5:16-24
When two people spend a lot of time together, they tend to rub off on each other. They begin to say things and do things that they picked up subconsciously from the other person. If we want to become more like Christ, the best way to see that happen if for us to spend a great deal of time with Him: in other words, to pray as often as possible. Long prayers, short prayers, prayers for help, prayers for healing, prayers thanking God for small blessings and big blessings, prayers that make a difference and prayers that seem to go unnoticed. Each and every prayer is communication with God, an opportunity to spend time with Him even if it doesn't seem to last more than a couple seconds. Yet as we spend time with Him, He rubs off on us. He changes us, perfects us, transforms us into someone who is holier than we used to be. We start to act more like Him: more patient, loving, forgiving, gracious, faithful, etc. (Gal 5:22-23). Of course, the hard part is actually remembering throughout the day to pray. So think of one thing that you do that can remind you to pray. Attach the prayer to an activity you already participate in, such as before or after meals, brushing teeth, getting ready for bed or for a new day, and you're more likely to remember to pray.
