Lent Day 10

Psalm 51:18-19
Cities, especially important ones like Jerusalem, used to have thick walls all around the outside to protect them from invaders. When King David wrote this psalm, God's temple, where He chose to dwell on earth in a special way, was in Jerusalem, the capital city of Israel. Now we have the immense privilege of God living in our hearts rather than just outside of us in a temple or church.
What does your heart look like though? Is it a fitting place for the King of kings to live in? Is it protected from everything unholy which would push Him out of your heart? As Christians we need to welcome into our hearts every person God brings to us, but we need to keep out every sin and temptation that would distract us from loving God more. We build those walls of protection by asking God to make us more holy, by avoiding activities and attitudes that make us more irritable or more likely to sin, and by reading and memorizing God's Word every day. Write down one thing you will do today to build up the walls that protect you from sinning.
