Bible Study: Read

No matter how smart you are, no matter how good your intentions may be, no matter how much you love God, you will not get to know the Bible if you don't read it. Pick a time every day and make a commitment. Choose the morning just after you visit the bathroom (or before if you need extra motivation). Choose night just before you turn out the light to sleep. Choose a mealtime which you nearly always eat alone. Whatever time you think might work for you and your schedule, make a commitment and keep it, every day with rare exceptions.
The purpose of this "finger" is to bring Scripture into your life every day. Over time it will give you a better understanding of what the Bible actually says and how the contents fit together. This may be as simple as choosing one of the Gospels (I like Luke) and reading one paragraph or section each day. Reading the Bible through in a year (or 90 days, 2 years, 3 years, etc.) gives a good overview while providing a pattern so you never wonder what you'll read next.
Look at the time you have available in your schedule and choose a plan that fits: don't commit to reading 3-5 chapters every day if you only have 5 minutes in your schedule. I know from my own experience that what works for me is a commitment I will stick to every day rather than jumping in over my head and failing miserably. Even a little bit every day is much better than not reading the Bible at all because you don't have enough time in your schedule to read every word of both Testaments within just a few months.
