Lent 2014: Simon Peter's mother-in-law

Luke 4:38-39

I have never bounced back from an illness as quickly as Peter's mother-in-law. I was ill last week, in fact, and while my fever and familiarity with our bathroom were gone after the first day, I still haven't fully recovered. Jesus didn't heal this woman just enough that she was in no danger of imminent death; He healed her so thoroughly that she was ready to serve Him and everyone who was with Him. Who knows how many people that was. It could have been enough to fill the house and overflow into the street.
.
Christ Jesus offers that level of healing to us as well, not just for our physical bodies but also for our spiritual and mental health. And even if His initial response to our requests for healing is "no" (1 Cor 12:7-9), we know that we will eventually be healed from every trial and form of suffering when we place all our faith in the Lord.
