Event/Theme: Mary the mother of Jesus

Symbol we use: Mary is known to us because she was chosen to be Jesus' mother. Since we give flowers to our mothers, it seems appropriate to use a flower on our tree for Jesus' mother. I use a silk rose that was once pinned on my husband's lapel for a wedding he stood up in. Also appropriate would be any ornament of the Holy Family.

Meditation: Mary is praising God with her acceptance of becoming Jesus' mother, with her faith in believing what the angel tells her, with her actions in visiting and helping her cousin Elizabeth, and with her words as she sees Elizabeth after her journey. Think of one way you can honor God today for His greatness. You might choose to accept an unpleasant situation without complaining. You might say "I believe" to something read in the Bible (e.g. God Himself became a human being). You might choose to make a sacrifice that benefits another person such as letting someone borrow something that belongs to you or helping someone with a project they are working on. Or you might say a prayer like Mary said which recognizes and praises God for who He is and what He has done for you.
