Jesse Tree: Abraham

Scripture: Genesis 15:1-6
.
Event/Theme: God's promise to Abraham
.
Tree still looks pretty bare, but it's starting to
fill out and the girls absolutely love putting
new ornaments on every day
Symbol we use: We turn on the Christmas/Jesse tree lights for the first time today. We make the connection for our children (since they might not make the connection for themselves) that the lights remind us of the stars in the sky. From this day forward I turn the lights on most evenings when it turns dark. If your tree-topper is a star, this would be the perfect day to put it on top of the tree.
.
Meditation: Abraham trusted God again and again without visible evidence (Heb 11:1). He had an amazing faith and the Lord was pleased with him for it. He didn't wait until he saw the fulfillment of the promise to believe that it would be fulfilled. God may not have taken you out on a starry night and promised a descendant for every light in the sky, but He has promised other things we cannot yet see the evidence for. He has promised salvation (John 10:10), that heaven will be magnificent (John 14:2), that Christ will return (Mat 24:30), as well as other personal promises. Just as God seemed to delay the fulfillment of His promise to Abraham, He might seem to delay the fulfillment of His promises to us, but have faith for they will be fulfilled. Every time you see a star this Advent and Christmas, remember Abraham and let the long awaited fulfillment of God's promises to him renew your own faith.
