Romans 5:9

Romans 5:9
The judge and the defender and the accuser are usually three different parties. At least, as the one being defended, we hope that the judge and the accuser are not one and the same. Yet God is the one we have wronged, God is the one judging, and God is the one defending us. He is the one wronged because He is our Creator and worthy of all praise yet each one of us has defied Him and disobeyed Him time and again. He is the judge because He is the only one in a position to see all sides of the issue and to judge justly. Yet He is our defender because He loves us and has chosen to take the punishment we rightly deserve. No one has forced His hand; He could have easily allowed us to suffer the punishment ourselves and He would have been entirely right in doing so. His choice in suffering the punishment so we could go free speaks of His amazing, incredible, unbelievable, unmerited, immense love for us. We now have the best defense imaginable simply because He loves us.
