Mini-Goal Introduction

I often write as if this were a letter, imagining the person who might be reading. Nevertheless, this is really my personal prayer journal, made public so others who choose to may read it. One of the reasons I've made my journal public is that it gives me a clearer focus and accountability. I'm going to start a new project of weekly mini goals which will replace my previous (from before Advent) Wednesday series, but it fits better on Mondays than on Wednesdays. So my Bible study from here on will be posted Tuesday-Friday--still 4 days a week--and my mini goal for the week will be posted on Mondays.

I find New Years resolutions too big and too easy to lose track of over the course of the year. Instead I have for the past several years taken smaller goals and focused on them over the course of a month or so. Yet it is still easy to let go of quickly, so this year I'm planning to be more intentional about my goals: write each one down yet make each so small that I can focus on it over the course of just a week.

When we give our lives fully to Christ, He transforms every aspect of our lives, both big and small. The way we handle ourselves and the way we manage our lives, including our health and our homes, impacts our ability to serve the Lord and to be a good witness. My first goal is very small but it's purpose is to improve my energy levels and by degrees, one thing leading to another like a domino train, to improve my ability to serve Him. My first weekly goal is simply to fill my water glass 4 times a day. My glass holds about 16 ounces, so if it were actually empty each time I will be drinking about 64 ounces of water. It may not be empty--my goal is to fill it 4 times, not to drink it empty 4 times. ;-) Yet it will serve as a reminder to drink more water throughout the day and so increase the amount of water I'm drinking and my desire to drink more.

Making my goals very small but weekly works for me much better than a larger yearly goal.

  1. I'm with ya! I see all of these people posting 80 million goals and I get overwhelmed. I can do all things - one step at a time {says that in the Bible right...okay, well that's how I interpret it for my personality.}

    When I have small goals it seems like it's easier to follow God's plan rather than my own. Thanks for sharing this.
