Despite our efforts to live simply, our home quickly fills with stuff. Stuff we don't need, stuff we don't want, stuff we thought we wanted when we first decided to keep it but which we should just get rid of. My goal this week is to get rid of some of that stuff. Each day I want to throw out, recycle, or give away at least one item. Any room, any item qualifies. Things I'm giving away don't have to leave the house today but they need to be in the designated give-away box, not just noted in my head that someday I should give that away.
Our children have been duly warned that toys and books that are left out overnight will no longer be theirs by morning. We've had a few toys already thrown out, books returned to the library early, and crayons put in time-out because they weren't put away when they were supposed to be. Our daughters are smart; there's not a single toy or book left out of place right now. I'll have to get rid of one of my own possessions tonight instead of theirs. :-)

Haha! What smart daughters. :) I too love simplicity. It seems like when I clear out the clutter 'til it almost hurts, that's when my whole feels most free and refreshing. :)
ReplyDeleteHaving practically nothing at one point in my life gave me a type of freedom that owning an abundance can't imitate. Getting to the happy medium point can hurt sometimes but I know it's worth the pain.
