Have you ever noticed that it is easier to physically overcome an obstacle than it is to eradicate an ongoing sin in our lives? It is much simpler to travel across the country than to deal "once and for all" with a sin we've been struggling with. The society we live in minimizes the difficulty of this battle against sin. God is so perfect that to reach Him Abraham would have to overcome not just one sin obstacle, but every sin obstacle and not just become perfect but remain perfect, without a single sin, throughout his whole life. It would be much simpler and a shorter distance to merely take a trip to the moon. The moon is only 238,855 miles (384,400km) away; the gap between God's perfection and our sinfulness is much greater.
