Romans 1:7

Just as those in Rome were "called to be saints", we are too. One of the advantages of knowing a second language is looking at some words differently. The word for "saint" in Spanish, for example, is exactly the same word using for "holy". It makes sense in English once you think about it a bit, but it's not immediately obvious. So if we are called to be saints, and if we are called to be holy, what does that really mean?

The online Merriam-Webster dictionary definition for saint led me to their definition for sacred. In both I find a sense of dedication, of being set apart for a specific purpose, especially for holiness. So if I have been called to be dedicated to holiness, am I:
  • willing to respond positively to the call and
  • actually doing something in order to become holy?
