John 19:17-24
I might read 10 or 20 Scripture verses or a Scripture passages over the course of a day during my different activities. Out of all those verses only a couple will noticeably strike me and speak to me directly. I'm sure the rest have an impact also but only about 1 in 10 will be so applicable and so timely that I really hear what they have to say this time. As we read the Bible, it's vitally important that we read enough to give God the chance to speak to us through His Word. If I find that only 1 in 10 Scripture passages change my perspective, then I want to read at least 10 passages every day so that God is changing my perspective every day.If you read the passage given about Jesus' crucifixion and nothing jumped out at you, read it again. Don't skim it, don't rush it; read each verse and give the Holy Spirit a chance to speak to you through the Bible. If nothing jumps out, read it through again. As familiar as this story can be for us, we need to break through our lack of expectation that there is anything new in it for us to learn. Say a prayer that the Lord will speak to you through the account of Jesus' crucifixion and then read it through again. This is one of the most important stories in the Bible so let it take root in your heart and become more real to you than it ever has been before.
